WASHINGTON - The building of urban parks nationwide is transforming Chinese cities, as the country tries to improve the quality of people's daily life, a U.S. media report said.

Parks offer an easy, albeit not cheap, way to satisfy some of those societal needs, said an article published by New York Times recently.

Park construction has taken on greater urgency during the pandemic, as many people have been cautious about going to restaurants, cinemas and other indoor locations, it said.

Some famous cities in China were mentioned in the article, including Suzhou, Kaifeng and Shanghai, as examples, for all of them have built several urban parks for local residents in the past year.
