Zongzi, a glutinous rice dumpling wrapped with bamboo or reed leaves, is a traditional delicacy Chinese people eat on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, which fell on Monday this year, June 14.

This year, sales of zongzi rose more than 40 percent from a year earlier, while figures for low-fat zongzi jumped nearly 200 percent, Singapore local media Lianhe Zaobao reported, adding during the peak selling period, more than 10 million zongzi were sold in just one day at some e-commerce platforms.

China's domestic tourism market also saw a continuous recovery, as the just-finished Dragon Boat Festival registered sharp growth both in trips and revenue.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China saw more than 89 million domestic tourist trips during the three-day holiday, up 94.1 percent from last year. Tourism revenue reached 29.43 billion yuan, up 139.7 percent from last year.

Data released on the 2021 Dragon Boat Festival by Trip.com, a travel service provider, also showed a continuing stable recovery of China's domestic travel market.

Despite scattered cases of COVID-19 in some areas in China, people's enthusiasm for travel has remained strong, Trip.com said.

Data showed travel peaked on the first day of the holiday, with Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan, Xi'an and Qingdao becoming the 10 most popular cities for high-speed arrivals nationwide.
