Gunmen kidnap students from school in NW Nigeria

LAGOS -- A group of unidentified gunmen on Monday raided a secondary school in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria, abducting an unspecified number of students, according to a police spokesperson.

The gunmen stormed the Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi town, Chikun local government area, in the early hours of Monday, taking away unknown number of students, according to Mohammed Jalige, a police spokesman in Kaduna.

Jalige told Xinhua on phone that 17 of the students were rescued by security operatives who responded to a distress call informing the attack.

He said the actual number of students kidnapped by the gunmen has yet to be determined, but that information would be released as soon as possible.
