On Jun 29, the Seminar of 30 People Forum on the Aging Society was held by the Ageing Society 30 Forum and the Research Center for the Aging Society of the Pangoal Institution. The theme of the seminar was "From Transformation to Shifting: Characteristics, Influences and Countermeasures of China's New Population Situation."

Lu Jiehua, a member of the forum and professor of sociology at Peking University, discussed the current condition of China’s population and its future development.

Lu said in the face of changing population conditions, it is particularly important to build cohesive social consensus to construct a policy system and social environment adapted to the new national conditions.

Lu also elaborated on 10 characteristics of the new national conditions, and articulated four strategies to focus on targeting the fluctuating population situation: core objective, coping concepts, institutional layout, and strategic tasks.

The chairman on duty of Ageing Society 30 Forum, director of Narada Foundation Xu Yongguang, as well as several members of the forum participated in the workshop. The guest participants exchanged informative and in-depth discussion regarding topics such as issues that were raised by demographic change: elder support, labor population aging, fertility problems, and others.
