China's NEV ownership reaches 6.03 million

China's new energy vehicle ownership reached 6.03 million by the end of June, accounting for 2.06 percent of total number of cars in the country, data from the Ministry of Public Security showed Tuesday.

About 81.68 percent of NEVs were pure electric vehicles, which hit 4.93 million units.

More than 1.10 million NEVs have been registered in China in the first half of 2021, representing an increase of 234.92 percent from a year earlier.

Number of newly-registered NEVs also saw a big jump in H1 in comparison to that of 2019, soaring 74.94 percent.

The number of motor vehicles reached 384 million units by June, with 18.71 million newly-registered in the first half, growing 32.33 percent from the same period last year.

Car ownership hit 292 million units, and 14.14 million were registered in the January to June period, up 35.76 percent year-on-year.

Passenger service vehicles reached 252 million units, including 233 million units of private cars.

The country also had 31.91 million units of cargo trucks by June end, accounted for 10.91 percent of total cars volume in the country.

According to the statistics, 74 Chinese cities saw car ownership exceed 1 million units by June, 33 cities exceed 2 million and 18 cities exceed 3 million.
Beijing had more than 6 million cars, followed by Chengdu and Chongqing, which both owned over 5 million cars.
