The Beijing weather authority announced on Sunday morning that the capital will experience strong rainfall from Sunday afternoon until Monday night.

The coming storm has triggered a yellow alert, the third-highest level in the four-tiered warning system, from the municipal meteorological station on Sunday.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.

The city's rainfall precipitation will reach 60 to 100 millimeters between 5pm Sunday and 8am Tuesday, according to the station.

All the sightseeing areas in Beijing's mountain districts have been closed to the public on Sunday noon. The homestays have suspended receiving guests.

The major parks in the capital have been temporarily closed and will reopen accordingly. The weather authority has reminded the public to be aware of potential risks and avoid going out if possible,

In order to be prepared for heavy downpours, related authorities in Beijing have been inspecting pump stations and getting staff members on standby for the possible emergencies.

The water plants and pipe networks have spared 400,000 square meters to cope with the coming pour.

The weather authority warned that the mountain torrent disasters are possible to occur in most mountain areas involving seven districts with 486 villages.
