Former top political adviser in Baotou pleads guilty to accepting bribes

Zhang Shiming, former Party secretary and chairman of the Baotou Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, pleaded guilty for taking bribes at trial in the Hinggan League Intermediate People's Court in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Wednesday.
Zhang was accused of taking advantage of his former positions and power to seek profits for others, and illegally accepting bribes 34 times worth a total 139 million yuan ($21.5 million) from 2003 to 2019.
He served in many posts during the period, such as deputy head of Baotou's Qingshan district, and head and Party chief of Qingshan, deputy mayor of Baotou and Party secretary and chairman of the Baotou Committee of the CPPCC.
It is reported that his sentence will be announced later.
