Premier Li Keqiang will attend a virtual leaders' meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program on Thursday at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin announced at a news briefing on Tuesday.

The meeting will be the seventh leaders' meeting under the program, which supports the implementation of high-priority projects in the six nations that share the Mekong River.

Wang said the program, launched 29 years ago, has facilitated fruitful cooperation in infrastructure development and regional economic integration and contributed to the region's sustainable growth.

The meeting, under the theme of "Strengthening Cooperation to Respond to Challenges in the Next Decade", will be of major significance to the joint fight against COVID-19 and facilitating economic recovery in different countries, he said.

Wang expressed hope that all parties involved can use the meeting as an opportunity to give play to the partnership spirit, jointly plan anti-pandemic and recovery measures, and work toward renewed progress in subregional development cooperation.
