Premier to meet with Mekong region leaders
Premier Li Keqiang will attend a virtual leaders' meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program on Thursday at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday. The meeting will be the seventh leaders' meeting under the program, which supports the implementation of high-priority projects in the six nations that share the Mekong River, which is known as the Lancang in China. The meeting, with the theme "strengthening cooperation to respond to challenges in the next decade", will be of major significance in the joint fight against COVID-19 and facilitating economic recovery in different countries, Wang said.
Foreign minister to begin Asian tour
State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will pay official visits to Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and South Korea from Friday to Sept 15, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday. Wang Yi will also co-chair the 13th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh.
New Earth-observation satellite launched
China launched the Gaofen 5-02 Earth-observation satellite on Tuesday morning from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi province, the China National Space Administration said. It said the satellite was carried by a Long March 4C carrier rocket that blasted off at 11:01 am and then successfully entered orbit. The satellite is equipped with hyperspectral observational devices tasked with monitoring air, water and other environmental factors.
