This year's winners of one of the world's most prestigious prizes presented to those working on sustainable urbanization have been announced.

Five winners of this year's UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor Awards include the New Urban Communities Authority, a non-profit organization in Egypt committed to providing safe, affordable social housing projects, and Shining Hope for Communities in Kenya, for being a leading example of community-led change to eradicate extreme poverty in Kenya's urban slums.

Baoji city, in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, became the only winner in Asia for its innovative housing provision project benefiting low and middle income residents in the city, according to UN-Habitat.

There were more than 80 eligible nominations for this year's awards covering individuals, cities, organizations and projects in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, the UN agency said.

The award, a plaque engraved with the name of the winning individual, city or institution, will be presented during the global observance of World Habitat Day on Monday in Yaounde, Cameroon, it said.
