Ili Kazak autonomous prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region aims to push forward its economic development by standardizing the production of nang, the staple wheat bread of the region.

The prefecture has set up 12 nang industrial parks that produce the bread. They present nang culture and allow tourists to experience the process of making the bread. Manufacturers across the prefecture try to diversify nang’s flavors, create bread with longer shelf life and use innovative package designs to boost the sales.

From January to September, the prefecture had sold more than 558 million nang-related products, generating profits of more than 75.9 million yuan ($11.8 million). About 45 million nang products were sold in places outside the region. Nearly 20 million nang products have been exported to foreign countries this year.
