Independent cybersecurity technology development is a must-have for China to deal with cybersecurity challenges and disputes in international trade as well as further national development, said Qi Xiangdong, chairman of Chinese security company Qi Anxin Technology Group.

Qi made the remarks at the APEC China CEO Forum, an event held on Saturday in Beijing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of China's accession to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Cyberattacks recently happened in countries such as the United States and Iran, causing disruptions to the supply of oil, meat, and telecommunication services.

According to Qi, cyberattacks targeting key infrastructure will impact a nation's national security, and the impact of a single cyberattack on the supply chain is likely to spill over to hundreds of thousands of enterprises, while cyber blackmail has become so common it is likely to co-exist with the digital world for a long time.

At the same time, international digital trade needs to be protected with a strong data security system, so nations can reach consensus over disputes. Independent capability to ensure cybersecurity has become important for a nation to safeguard itself, he said.

Only through improving cybersecurity protection capabilities can a nation better deal with cybersecurity risks and better solve dispute in international trade.
