GM's premium marque Cadillac is building a dedicated network of showrooms in China for its upcoming electric vehicles.

Cadillac started presales of its Lyriq SUV, which is the brand's first electric model, last year in the country.

GM said the all-electric SUV's presales are "strong". It did not give a specific date for the model's launch in the country but the model is estimated to hit the market this year.

Cadillac now has 11 such showrooms in seven cities across the country, with the latest one opening on Saturday in Shanghai. It said another 10 showrooms will join them in six months.

Led by the Cadillac Lyriq, a wide spectrum of Ultium-based models across Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet will be introduced to the Chinese market, said GM.

As one of the popular second-tier premium brands in China, Cadillac had record sales of over 230,000 units in 2021.
