The China International Import Expo Bureau and German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) held an online promotion event for the fifth CIIE on Tuesday, attracting representatives of nearly 100 German companies.

Ma Fengmin, CFO of the CIIE Bureau, delivered a speech at the event, which was called "Cloud Exhibitor Recruitment", and signed a participation contract with Xu Jingbo, vice-president of AHK China.

Ma said that Germany is one of the important participating countries in the CIIE, noting that 176 German enterprises attended the fourth CIIE and inked intended deals worth $16.9 billion.

Xu said AHK recently released an updated version of its industry report of China which will help more German companies understand the huge potential in the Chinese market and seize the valuable business opportunities brought by the expo.

He added that many small-and-medium-sized German enterprises have shown strong interest in participating in the CIIE.

Representatives of Germany's Baden-Wurttemberg, Bavaria and other federal states, as well as Bremeninvest, which participated in previous editions of the CIIE, joined the event online and introduced the characteristics of their states and expressed the desire of German enterprises to strengthen cooperation with Chinese enterprises.

Qiu Yuanling, commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Germany, said that bilateral trade volume between the two countries grew in 2021 and accounted for 30 percent of the total trade between China and Europe.
