BEIJING - A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday instructed tourist destinations and entertainment venues to be vigilant against COVID-19 over the upcoming Spring Festival holiday.

Spring Festival is one of the country's most important annual holidays. It is essential to stay alert as many people will visit family and friends, go shopping or sightseeing over the festive period, said Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. Huang issued the instruction during his inspection of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Huang called on tourist and entertainment venues to rigorously implement epidemic control measures, such as sterilizing facilities and crowd management.

He also encouraged the cultural and entertainment sector to support the festive atmosphere by producing quality products.

The Spring Festival holiday for 2022 will last from Jan 31 to Feb 6.
