Former envoy: US should recognize China's reemergence

This year marks the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon's visit to China. In a recent interview with China Daily, Chas Freeman, a veteran US diplomat and the chief interpreter for Nixon's visit to China in 1972, said that the "ice-breaking trip" 50 years ago was of great significance to Sino-American relations.

The United States today needs to learn from this history and respond positively to China's reemergence, he said.
