The Market Supervision Bureau of the Tibet autonomous region recovered 11 million yuan ($1.8 million) for consumers last year as the region emphasized the protection of consumer rights, officials said at a news conference observing the 39th World Consumer Rights Day on Tuesday.

Over the year, the region processed 31,600 cases brought by consumers via an online service platform "12315", including 23,300 consultations, 5,800 complaints and 2,500 reports.

"A number of cases were investigated and dealt with effectively, with the rights and interests of consumers being protected. The market was maintained in a proper order," said Tsetan, the head of the bureau, who also serves as head of the region's Intellectual Property Bureau.

"More than 12,000 food inspections and monitoring cases were completed last year, with 99.1 percent of the subjects passing, which is higher than the national average," he said.

Dekyi Drolkar, who is responsible of the regional consumer association, said Tibet will try to achieve more consumption equity by strictly implementing laws and regulations and will encourage green and low-carbon consumption to achieve sustainability.
