China will continue to put the Republic of Korea in an important position in its neighboring diplomacy and hopes the new government can adhere to a friendly policy toward China, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with the outgoing ROK Ambassador to China Jang Ha-sung in Beijing, expressing gratitude for the ambassador's contribution to deepening relations between the two countries.

Wang said China-ROK relations have achieved significant and positive results since the establishment of diplomatic relations, which are in line with fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples.

He called on the two countries to take the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to push the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Noting both sides face challenges including anti-globalization and the Cold War mentality, Wang said China and ROK should strengthen communication and coordination to jointly uphold peace and stability in the region as well as stay committed to global development and prosperity.

Jang noted he has witnessed China's rapid development and major achievements of ROK-China relations since he took office in 2019.

China will maintain a strong momentum of development and the friendship and pragmatic cooperation between ROK and China will be further deepened, he added.
