Sri Lankan parliamentary speaker receives president's resignation letter

COLOMBO - Sri Lanka's Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has received the resignation letter of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and a formal announcement is to be made later on Thursday, the Speaker's Office told Xinhua.
Rajapaksa's resignation will be announced to the nation by the speaker once the legal procedures are completed, it said.
