UK pubs 'face closure' over electricity bills

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-09-01 01:08

Thousands of pubs in the United Kingdom face closure without energy bill support from the government.

According to the bosses of companies owning almost half of the UK's 47,000 pubs, tenants are already giving notice because they are unable to cope with energy bills going up more than fivefold.

The British Beer and Pub Association said pubs are still battling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Without help, soaring energy bills could lead to mass job losses in the industry, which involves 940,000 people.
