China & Russia agree to global stability

China and Russia on Monday agreed to jointly safeguard global strategic stability and consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two sides at the 17th round of China-Russia Strategic Security Consultation.

The pledge was made when Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee had talks with Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

The meeting came after the two heads of state held face-to-face talks in Uzbekistan on Thursday, their second gathering this year.

The two sides also agreed to continue to fully leverage this important consultation mechanism and implement well the consensus reached by the two heads of state in their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Samarkand summit.

The two sides, during the talks, vowed to enhance mutual trust and support each other in following development paths suited to their national conditions.

Yang, who is also director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, said Beijing would work with Moscow to keep deepening bilateral mutual political trust and strategic coordination to foster more secure and stable external environment for each other’s development and revitalization.

China would also like to make greater contributions to safeguarding shared interests of the two countries as well as upholding the security and stability of the world together with Russia, he added.

Noting Russia always took developing relations with China as a diplomatic priority, Patrushev said Moscow was willing to maintain close strategic communication with Beijing, deepen practical cooperation in various areas and further strengthen coordination and cooperation in international organizations.

While pledging the commitment to the one-China principle, he said Russia firmly supported measures that the Chinese government had taken to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan question.
