Tesla's Shanghai plant delivered over 83,000 electric vehicles in September, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
This is the best monthly figure for the manufacturing facility wholly owned by the United States-based carmaker, said Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the association.
The sector of new energy vehicles, which include electric cars and plug-in hybrids, has continued its momentum in China.
Statistics from the CPCA show that wholesale sales of passenger NEVs last month totaled 660,000 units, up 95 percent year-on-year.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, 3.71 million NEVs were registered in China from January to September, up 98.48 percent compared with the same period last year.
NEVs accounting for 21.34 percent of all new vehicle registrations in the first three quarters, said the ministry.
By the end of September, China had a total of 11.49 million NEVs on the roads, making up 3.65 percent of the total number of vehicles in the country.
