China would continuously deepen cooperation with the United Nations and make greater contributions to addressing common challenges facing the international community, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China, made the remarks in a virtual meeting with President of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi.

During the talks, Wang underlined that China has always supported the cause of the UN and the important role of the UNGA.

Noting Chinese modernization pursues the harmony between human and nature, Wang said China stays committed to following a green, low carbon and sustainable path.

He pledged China would participate in international cooperation on climate change, and actively engage in major negotiation on climate change.

China would provide support and help to developing countries within its utmost abilities and make positive contributions to the success of 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Wang said. The COP27 kicked off on Sunday in Egypt.

China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with countries on water resources, through the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, he said.

As the country holds the presidency of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, known as COP15, Wang said China would work with parties to well organize the second part of COP15 and make COP15 a success.

Korosi congratulated China on the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, noting the UN hope to strengthen cooperation with Beijing to make COP27 a success and jointly address climate change.

Korosi said the UN also looked forward to stepping up cooperation with China on water resource utilization and management, and help vulnerable countries tackle challenges, while expressing his gratitude to China’s positive posture and constructive role in the regard.

He also expressed willingness to support China's efforts and promote the second wave of meetings of COP15 to realize positive outcomes.

The two sides also exchanged views on Security Council reform and many other important issues.
