A club on Sino-Africa culture and tourism was founded in Nairobi, Kenya, which is expected to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The club is an overseas branch of Fan Deng Reading, a popular reading platform in China that has more than 60 million registered users.

Tang Jianjun, cultural counselor of the Chinese embassy in Kenya, said founding the club in Kenya will enhance cultural exchanges between China and Kenya and foster mutual understanding and appreciation between Chinese and African civilizations.

"To celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Kenya, the Chinese embassy in Kenya will give more importance to the cooperation and exchange of culture and tourism with Kenya. We will plan a series of activities to support people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and introduce Chinese tourists to Kenya," he said at the founding of the club on Saturday.

Hon Peninah Malonza, cabinet secretary of Kenya's Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, said that the Club of Sino-Africa Culture and Tourism is important in enhancing closer cultural and tourism collaboration between China and Kenya, and it will serve as an important touching point of convergence in building understanding and appreciation of the rich cultures of China and Kenya.

"Kenya is resilient, as it has always resorted to culture as a means of building unity and reconciliation in times we faced with instances that challenge our peace," John Chirchir, from Kenya Tourism Board, representing Malonza, said in a speech.

"Our reading culture defines us as a nation; hence it is a vehicle for national cohesion, national identity, pride and morals."
