China will, as always, support and participate in the work of the United Nations and coordinate with the international body in areas such as climate change and water conservation to jointly address global challenges, Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday.

He made the remark when meeting with Csaba Korosi, president of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in Beijing. Korosi kicked off a four-day trip to China on Wednesday.

Noting that it is the shared aspiration of people around the world to pursue peace and development, Li reiterated China's commitment to taking a path of multilateralism and maintaining the international system with the UN at the core.

Given the complicated changes in regional and global circumstances, Li said that China is willing to work with all parties to safeguard the purpose and principles of the UN Charter, uphold international laws and the basic norms governing international relations.

As a founding member of the UN and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will also adhere to the correct direction of economic globalization, and safeguard world peace and stability, he added.

The premier stressed that China, as an upholder and participant of international order, has benefited from and contributed to global openness. Despite international vicissitudes, the country will firmly follow the path of peaceful development, stick with the fundamental national policy of reform and opening-up, and provide new opportunities to the world through China’s development, he said.

Korosi said the UN hopes to deepen its friendship and strengthen its cooperation with China to jointly address the various challenges faced by the world today in terms of politics, economy, ecology, water conservation and the humanitarian crisis in order to achieve sustainable development and push forward reforms based on scientific decision-making.

The international body appreciated China's support and expects the country to continue to play a bigger role in many aspects of the future, he said.
