Chinese tech giants gravitate toward ChatGPT-like products, services

As chatbot ChatGPT has garnered global attention, more than 10 Chinese tech giants announced their ChatGPT technical storage and ChatGPT-like products and services, according to a report by 21st Century Business Herald on Wednesday.

By Feb 13, tech companies including Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, ByteDance, JD, 360, iFlytek, Kuaishou and Netease Youdao have all announced their ambitions to launch ChatGPT-like products. The country's largest search engine company Baidu Inc announced on Tuesday that its ChatGPT-like product, called Ernie Bot, will complete its internal testing and be made public in March.

Eleven national artificial intelligence innovation and application pilot zones, including Shanghai (Pudong New Area), Tianjin, Jinan-Qingdao, Beijing, Tianjin (Binhai New Area), Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, Wuhan and Changsha, have released the action or development plans for artificial intelligence before the end of 2022, the report said.

AI-generated content represented by ChatGPT has relatively mature technology in the field of text and image generation. Meanwhile, Microsoft, Baidu and other technology giants are expected to apply AI technology to business ecology to promote the permeability of online offices, search engines and other application scenarios, according to a research report of Zheshang Securities.

It is estimated that domestic AIGC market scale will reach 40.35 billion yuan ($5.9 billion) in 2025 and 217.56 billion yuan in 2030. The report also said the market is expected to usher in explosive growth in the next few years.

As a chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched as a prototype in November 2022, ChatGPT quickly garnered attention for its detailed responses and articulate answers across many domains of knowledge.
