Originally built by Russian Jews in 1927, the Ohel Moshe Synagogue was an important place where Jewish refugees in Shanghai gathered and performed religious ceremonies during war. Because of this, the creative team chose to host the performance here as it would offer audiences a greater sense of historical immersion.

The first time the musical was performed at the synagogue was in the spring of 2012. Then, it was the first original play in China to portray the relationships between Jewish refugees, Japanese military officers and Shanghainese during the war.

According to the creative team, every new season sees a different presentation of the musical, which is constantly ajusted based on the latest historical findings and audience feedback.
