The Dongguan-Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park facilitated shipment of goods worth more than 26.1 million yuan ($3.66 million), 72.93 tons, as of the end of May since its launch on April 18.

The park, located in the Humen Port Comprehensive Bonded Area in Dongguan, make use of the status of Hong Kong as an international aviation hub and the the manufacturing clout of Dongguan and other cities in Guangdong province.

Goods go through customs clearance, security screening and palletization in the park before they are shipped to Hong Kong's airport and flown to global destinations.

Daily sailing from the park to Hong Kong's airport is expected to increase to two later this month and to three afterward with special vessels designed for the route, Ye Jingchao, chairman of park shareholder Dongguan Port International Air Transportation Co, said on Saturday.

Many clients are supportive of the services facilitated by the park, although it takes some time to move from previous modes, he said.

Because some services are extended from Hong Kong to the park and closer to clients, the new mode brings them higher efficiency, said Tang Lingli, general manager of Dongguan MBE International Aviation Logistics Co, a freight forwarding company operating in the park.

The large supply of land and the workforce in Dongguan helps cut costs by 20 to 30 percent, she said, adding many of her company's clients are going through procedures in order to use the park.

With the third runway and other expansions at Hong Kong's airport to be completed in 2025, the cargo processing capacity at the park is expected to exceed 1 million tons annually.
