Washington should stop making irresponsible comments and take concrete measures to deliver its commitment, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Thursday, urging the United States to respect China.
Mao made the remarks at a daily news conference after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in recent interview that the US will continue to defend its values and interests and continue to do and say things China doesn't like.
China is dissatisfied by Blinken's comments, Mao said. The US has a misunderstanding about China, and follows a wrong approach towards China by containing and suppressing the country, making groundless accusations against it and wantonly interfering in its internal affairs, Mao said.
"The things the US has said and done are violations of basic norms guiding international relations. It's only natural for China to oppose them resolutely," the spokeswoman said.
"Mutual respect is the most fundamental principle for interactions between countries, and an integral part of the right way for China and the US to get along," she said.
