Trains stop service in advance of typhoon

Hundreds of trains in the provinces of Guangdong and Hainan were suspended on Monday as typhoon Talim is expected to make landfall soon, according to local service operators.

Services for eight high-speed trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and Guangdong and Hong Kong were cancelled on Monday, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.

Services for up to 144 trains along the high-speed railway in Hainan and a line between Jiangmen and Zhanjiang, Guangdong, will continue suspension on Tuesday.

Talim, the fourth typhoon of the year, is expected to make landfall in coastal areas between Dianbai county of Guangdong and Wenchang in Hainan on Monday night, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Huge waves were already visible near the wharf of a maritime supervision base in Zhanjiang at around 5:20 pm on Monday, according to the local maritime affairs authority.
