Simmons® ensuring the sweetest dreams for nine decades in China

Simmons®, the high-end mattress brand from the United States, released a limited-edition double-sided mattress and organized a grand ceremony on Sept 8 to celebrate its 90th anniversary in Shanghai, showcasing its strong ties to the nation and its determination for long-term development.

According to Lim Khiam Hon, general manager of Simmons® China, only 1,933 pieces of the limited-edition mattress named Magnolia will be released to the market to commemorate its inception in Shanghai in 1933. This exclusive mattress combines the renowned features of two classic developments of the company, Beautyrest® and BackCare®, and is designed with a warm gold side and a black gold side. The mattress is also adorned with an elegant magnolia pattern, symbolizing the elegance and culture of Shanghai.

"This event holds immense significance, not just as a celebration, but as an opportunity to elevate our brand image and familiarize more people, especially the younger generation, with the rich history of Simmons® in China and its deep-rooted connection to the country," Lim said.

Apart from showcasing its new mattress, Simmons® also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment and pursuit of long-term growth strategies at the celebration on Sept 8.

"We will continue to invest in China because we have been growing," Lim said. "China is a massive market, and the importance of quality sleep will be in great demand. We will continue to provide top-notch products for all consumers and continue to educate consumers about how important it is to get a good and reliable mattress."

Known in China for 90 years, Simmons® has established itself as a leading provider of premium spring mattresses, offering Chinese consumers high-quality sleeping experiences, even during a short period of absence from China.

In 1933, Simmons® came to China and established its first factory on 61 Yangshupu Road, Shanghai, which also marked the brand's official entry into China. The mattress products produced by Simmons® were sold in the Yong'an Department Store and Xianshi Department Store, and were advertised in the local newspaper Shun Pao, becoming a household name brand. As a global leader and pioneer of spring mattresses, Simmons® has awakened people's yearning for high-quality sleep for more than 153 years, and has protected thousands of people's dreams of a comfortable sleep for countless nights. Since then, the Chinese translation of Simmons®, Xi Meng Si, has become a household mattress brand in China.

According to Lim, due to its expertise and unwavering dedication to innovate, Simmons® has experienced significant sales growth in China, even during the pandemic. It has established a sales network that spans all major cities in China. Approximately 400 showrooms have been set up throughout the country.

"We have been fortunate enough in the sense that since we came back to China in 2005, we have been growing every year," Lim said.

So far, a diverse range of products, which fall under three distinct series — Elite, Premium and Studio- are available in China. These products include both imported and locally produced items, ensuring a wide selection for Chinese consumers.

Simmons®, founded by Zalmon G. Simmons in the US in 1870, will continue to seek opportunities in China and expand its sales network.

It will remain steadfast in developing its core business, particularly its pocket spring mattresses, while simultaneously placing emphasis on innovation. Lim explained that the superior pocket coil technology serves as a platform for incorporating Simmons'® novel ideas and cutting-edge technologies.

"Simmons® has always paid close attention to the needs of the Chinese market and consumers, focusing on trends such as personalized and intelligent solutions, interpreting modern home aesthetics with quality beyond industry standards, and constantly creating industry leading mattress products. The brand regards the spirit of innovation as its core, and constantly pours ingenuity into product research and development and process innovation. A mattress brand named after its founder Simmons, or Xi Meng Si in Chinese, has long gone beyond its products and represents a sophisticated lifestyle that truly advocates quality and value. We have to focus back on the core that we are doing, but at the same time adding new innovation. I think that is the key to success. We are confident that through continued investment, we will win greater success in the Chinese market," said Lim.
