China's Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian had a brief exchange on Monday in Beijing with Cynthia Carras, a senior official for China policy at the United States Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, Yuyuantantian, a new media account for China Media Group reported.
In the report, Wu did not mention what he and Carras talked about during their chat but said that the Beijing Xiangshan Forum is "a good platform for contact and communication".
He stressed that good communication should be based on meaningful moves, urging the US to take practical measures to build a "favorable atmosphere" for the two nations' military communication and exchanges, according to the report.
The Chinese spokesman noted that the Beijing Xiangshan Forum is intended to enable different parties to make their voice heard.
"We always believe that public opinions in the world should not be manipulated by one or two major powers, but should encompass the voices of all parties. More than 90 official representatives and so many scholars have come here to participate in the forum, which proves that China's idea are being supported by most countries," Wu was quoted as saying by the report.
He said security should belong to all countries and it should last long. China believes that security should be shared, comprehensive and sustainable and should be gained through cooperation, the spokesman said, adding such security thought is the fundamental solution to current problems around the world.
