World Federation of Engineering Organizations President Mustafa Shehu has expressed his great expectations for future cooperation between the organization and the China Association for Science and Technology.

China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative 10 years ago, with the goal of common development and prosperity for the world, injecting new impetus into global peace and development, Shehu said.

Over the past decade, China has undergone significant development and achieved remarkable accomplishments in transportation infrastructure, modern engineering, and other fields, benefiting all of humanity, he said at the opening ceremony of the first Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in Chongqing on Monday.

The BRI's open, green, and sustainable development concepts, as well as the cooperation principles of high-level, sustainable, and people-centered collaboration, are highly aligned with the objectives and purposes of the WFEO.

Shehu said he firmly believes that as the initiative progresses, cooperation between CAST and the WFEO will deepen and become more enriched. The WFEO will make efforts through the collaborative network of engineering organizations in countries along the BRI to contribute to global sustainability and shared development.

He said he has great expectations for future cooperation between the WFEO and CAST, as well as other engineering organizations.

Shehu also congratulated China on winning the hosting rights for the 2025 World Federation of Engineering Organizations general assembly and believes that the conference will open a new chapter for the development of the global engineering technology community.

The WFEO is an important international scientific and technological organization that CAST has joined.

Established in 1968 under the initiative and support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, it is classified as a Category A consulting organization of UNESCO. It also serves as an advisory body for other organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Its members span over 100 countries and regions worldwide, including 12 regional international engineering organizations, making it the largest nongovernmental international engineering organization in the world.
