Xi condoles death of Namibian president, speaks of friendship between nations

President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence on Monday to newly sworn-in Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba on the passing of Mbumba's predecessor Hage Geingob.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Namibia as well as the family of Geingob, who died on Sunday at the age of 82.

In the message, Xi pointed out that Geingob was an outstanding leader of Namibia, who had vigorously promoted the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries during his lifetime, making significant contributions to the friendship between China and Namibia as well as China and Africa.

His passing is a great loss to the Namibian people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend, Xi said.

Noting that China attaches great importance to its profound traditional friendship with Namibia, Xi said the nation is willing to work with Namibia to continuously advance the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries.

Editions of book containing discourses by President Xi on Chinese modernization released

The English and English-Chinese bilingual editions of the book about Xi Jinping's discourses on Chinese-style modernization have been published by the Central Compilation and Translation Press.

The book, translated by the Institute of Party History and Literature of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, contains a series of important discourses on the Chinese-style modernization by President Xi Jinping from November 2012 to October 2023.

It is divided into seven sections, systematically reflecting Xi's profound interpretation of the rich connotations of Chinese-style modernization, its essential requirements and major principles. It comprehensively presents the major progress of theoretical and practical innovations of Chinese-style modernization since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

The publication of the English and English-Chinese bilingual editions of the book will help domestic and international readers to deeply understand the theoretical framework and practical requirements of Chinese-style modernization, enhance the common understanding of the international community in jointly promoting the path of modernization, and achieving peaceful development, mutually beneficial cooperation and common prosperity. The book is available both at home and abroad.

Premier emphasizes need to intensify anti-corruption efforts at work conference

The State Council, China's Cabinet, held the second anti-corruption work conference in Beijing on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, Premier Li Qiang emphasized the need to intensify anti-corruption efforts to provide strong guarantees for building a strong country and realizing national rejuvenation through the Chinese path to modernization.

Li called for fully understanding the theory of the Party's self-reform, and effectively enhancing the responsibility for anti-corruption and building a corruption-free government.

He also underlined the need to strictly observe the political disciplines and rules, strive to fight corruption in key areas and promote the construction of a regular and effective mechanism for preventing and addressing the corruption problem.

Religious groups urged to work for Party and country

Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the nation's top political advisory body, extended New Year greetings to religious figures and believers across the country on Monday.

During a symposium attended by leaders of national religious groups, Wang said that all national religious groups should serve the overall work of the Party and the country, position themselves in the process of the Chinese modernization, and better rally religious figures and believers around the Party and the government, contributing to promoting the Chinese modernization.

It is necessary to adhere to the principle of developing religions in the Chinese context, uphold rigorous governance over religious affairs, build a positive atmosphere within religious community, and strive to cultivate more qualified patriotic religious talents, he said.

Wang emphasized that the Party and the government have always attached great importance to religious work, urging relevant departments to strengthen communication and contact with the religious community.
