Energy saving cuts costs for enterprises in Zhejiang

In the prefecture-level city of Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province, the Qianjin Chemical Co Ltd — which focuses on high-performance environmental protection dyes and related intermediates — has grown into an enterprise with a leading production scale and market share in the world.

As one of the city's green and low-carbon factories for the year 2023, the company — set up in February 2002 in Jiujiang district — has led the formulation of five national standards, 12 industry standards and one "Made in Zhejiang" group standard during its development.

But its operating cost is also very high, said Xu Zhiyong, director of the firm's electricity department, noting that now, they can save at least 200,000 yuan ($27,805) a year after making some scientific readjustment in production.

The local branch of the State Grid — the world's largest utility which shoulders a dual task of safeguarding the country's energy security as well as its economic lifeline — is offering the help.

Cao Yajia, a staffer from State Grid Taizhou Electric Power Co, said that to boost industrial development, electric power must come first, so her agency is trying to bring more optimized services to enterprise workshops and production lines, injecting strong impetus into their high-quality development.

On March 7, some of Cao's colleagues visited Qianjin Chemical for a thorough investigation of its electricity use, trying to aid in bolstering its production efficiency and elevating its energy saving.

"We came to explain our new policy of electricity prices determined by different periods, help analyze your energy bills and put forward suggestions for optimizing your electricity consumption," Chen Hanhan told the company staffers greeting them.

In the power distribution room, members of the service team carefully examined the power supply facilities, power equipment operation, distribution transformer load, switching of protective devices and insulation equipment.
