Xinjiang political adviser under probe
Dou Wangui, a senior political adviser of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, is under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, according to an official statement on Wednesday. Dou, vice-chairperson of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision for suspected serious violations of laws and regulations.
Former Shanxi official arrested for bribery
The Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday announced its decision to arrest Shang Liguang, former deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China Shanxi Provincial Committee, on suspicion of accepting bribes. Shang's case was transferred to the procuratorial authority for review and prosecution following the conclusion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision. The handling of the case is ongoing, the SPP said in a statement.
Campaign to promote employment for grads
China's Ministry of Education said on Wednesday it would launch a campaign to promote employment for university graduates during the spring semester, a key period for campus recruitment. The ministry said it aims to organize up to 10,000 businesses to hold on-campus recruitment events while encouraging universities to visit enterprises, pool recruitment information and notify job-seeking graduates about vacancies. Universities are also required to offer guidance to job-seeking students through various means such as online lectures, the ministry said.
New plant species discovered in Hubei
A team of Chinese researchers has discovered a new species of asparagus in the Dabie Mountains in Hubei province, according to the Wuhan Botanical Garden, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The discovery of the species, which the team named Asparagus dabieshanensis, was recently published in the journal Phytotaxa. It was found after over 40 field surveys were conducted across the mountain region. The team then collected comprehensive information of the vegetable's flowers, fruit and seeds. Detailed morphological comparisons and molecular systematic analysis confirmed it as a new species of the family Asparagaceae.
