Casualties feared as blast rocks Afghan southern Kandahar city

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Casualties were feared as a blast rocked Afghan southern Kandahar city on Thursday, provincial government spokesperson Mawlawi Mahmoud Ezam said.

The blast occurred at around 08:30 am local time in Kandahar city, the provincial capital of Kandahar province, the official confirmed, adding that details would be made public after investigation.

Eyewitnesses on the condition of anonymity said the blast, obviously a suicide attack, struck in front of New Kabul Bank when a number of people including military personnel were waiting to withdraw money.
