Fire kills 8, injures 9 in Istanbul

ISTANBUL -- At least eight people were killed and nine others injured when a fire broke out in a building in Turkiye's largest city Istanbul on Tuesday.

The Istanbul governor's office said in a statement that the fire erupted at an entertainment center in the Gayrettepe neighborhood of the Besiktas district on the European side of the city.

The center was on the first and second floors of a 16-story building. Upon receiving the notice, the office said that many firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to the scene, adding that seven of the injured were in critical condition.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
