An activity to collect short films related to intellectual property protection was launched on Monday.

Themed "Protecting intellectual property rights to support innovation and creation", the activity is jointly organized by the Supreme People's Court, China Film Association, and China Federation of Literary And Art Circles.

Deng Guanghui, an official from the association, told a news conference on Monday that the activity aims to encourage film creators, especially the younger ones, to tell stories about IP protection through short films.

"Short films are the starting point for many young filmmakers and are also popular among netizens, so we joined hands with judicial authorities to focus on this regard this time to help more people enhance legal awareness to protect IP rights and introduce IP-related knowledge to them in this way," he said.

He revealed that the deadline of the short film collection will end on July 31, noting that experts in the fields of film, judiciary and copyright protection will select five best ones from the candidate works.

Creators of the best works will have an opportunity to participate in this year's China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival to share their ideas with more filmmakers, he added.
