Police in Laos recently handed over 250 Chinese nationals suspected of engaging in cross-border nude chat extortion and telecom fraud to Chinese public security organs, as stated by the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday.

Police from Laos and China recently carried out the international police cooperation and dismantled three criminal hideouts located in Laos. These hideouts were involved in crimes targeting Chinese citizens, including cross-border nude chat extortion and telecommunication network fraud, it said.

A total of 250 Chinese suspects were arrested, including 160 targeted suspects and 90 individuals who were previously fugitives. Police also seized over 990 mobile phones and more than 270 computers used in these crimes.

The suspects and related evidence have been successfully transferred back to China through the Xishuangbanna border crossing in southwest China's Yunnan province.

In November 2022, during the investigation of a nude chat extortion case, police in Zhoukou, Henan province discovered a criminal group led by an individual surnamed Liu. This group had organized personnel and established bases within Myanmar and Laos to commit cross-border nude chat extortion and telecom fraud against Chinese citizens, involving large amounts of money.

The Ministry of Public Security organized the involved regions' public security organs to conduct investigations, gradually clarifying the criminal group's structure and the locations of their hideouts. Then the police carried out the international police cooperation to combat the group.

The Ministry of Public Security has organized public security authorities in the province of Henan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, and Guizhou to transport the suspects for further investigation and case handling.
