More than 200 million passenger trips were made on Tuesday, one day ahead of the May Day holiday, the Ministry of Transport said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, 204.15 million passenger trips were made, a year-on-year increase of 22.6 percent and up 37.9 percent in 2019 — before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among them, 16.42 million were by railway, up 24.7 percent from the same period in 2019 and an increase of 6.3 percent from last year. A total of 1.97 million passenger trips were made by air, up 5.9 percent from 2019 and down 8.8 percent from last year.

During the May Day holiday, about 270 million passenger trips are expected to be made everyday, according to an earlier statement from the ministry.
