The holding of a strong business environment based on ease of doing business is a key factor in attracting foreign investment into China, the International Monetary Fund's senior official said.

"For China, as for every other country in the world, if you can have a strong business environment in terms of ease of doing business, that would attract foreign investment," Gita Gopinath, the fund's first deputy managing director, said at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

She added that that's equally important for every other emerging and developing country in the world. Regulatory alignment, in line with building strength in human capital via strong education, and macro stability are the factors that can help to attract foreign investment.

What's also critical is to have a level playing field across domestic, foreign and private firms. "It's important that you make sure that you're providing a level playing field so you are not favoring some over others," Gopinath said.
