Three women in Beijing have been fined a combined 17,600 yuan ($2,420) and had their driver's licenses revoked after being caught racing modified motorcycles through a city tunnel.

The women were caught on surveillance video repeatedly speeding, swerving, and riding recklessly on Huizhong Road in May. They were eventually identified and charged with 87 traffic violations, including speeding, reckless driving, and illegal modifications to their motorcycles, Beijing Daily reported on Monday.

Surveillance footage showed that from 5:53 pm to 9:12 pm on May 23, the women repeatedly rode motorcycles in the Huizhong Road tunnel, committing various traffic offenses, including riding with hands off the handlebars, stopping inside the tunnel, not staying in the right lane, entering non-motorized vehicle lanes and bus lanes, and speeding in some sections.

After reviewing the video evidence, a special investigation team located the three women and their motorcycles on May 27. During questioning, the three identified with their surnames Zhang, Chen, and Cao admitted their involvement in multiple violations.

Additionally, Zhang and Chen's motorcycles were found to have illegal modifications. They admitted that most of the modifications were self-made and were not registered with the traffic management department.

Zhang was fined 7,100 yuan for 33 violations and had 21 points deducted from her license. Chen was fined 6,000 yuan for 31 violations and had 18 points deducted from her license. Cao was fined 4,500 yuan for 23 violations and had 15 points deducted from her license.
