The "Friends of Latin America" choir, composed of retirees from different walks of life in Beijing, performed the famous Peruvian song "El Condor Pasa" on Thursday at an event hosted by the Peruvian embassy in China, reinforcing the cultural ties and friendship between China and Peru.
"El Condor Pasa" gained wider recognition among Chinese audiences when it was seamlessly merged with the traditional Chinese song "Lan Huahua" during a joint performance by Chinese and Peruvian artists at the nationally televised Spring Festival gala.
Founded in 2018, the choir consists of seniors passionate about music, many of whom learned Spanish from scratch and now perform over a dozen classic Latin American songs.
As one of the few choirs in China capable of singing in Spanish, the "Friends of Latin America" choir has participated in numerous events hosted by Latin American embassies in China, gaining recognition within the Spanish-speaking diplomatic community, with many Latin Americans aware of this unique choir in the Chinese capital.
