The Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that the duty-free treatment for US goods entering the designated supervision areas in China's pilot free trade zones will remain unchanged, after Beijing placed 84 percent tariffs on all products originating from the US.

However, He Yongqian, spokeswoman with the ministry, said at a news conference that when the US goods leave these designated areas and enter the Chinese market for sale, the corresponding taxes will still need to be paid.

China's pilot free trade zones have served as a comprehensive platform for the country's reform and opening-up efforts and have introduced a wealth of pioneering initiatives, He noted.
