China urges Japan to abide by one-China principle, refrain from sending wrong signals to Taiwan separatists

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun urged Japan on Friday to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and refrain from sending wrong signals to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence" following Japan's former chief cabinet secretary's visit to Taiwan.

"Taiwan is a province of China and does not have a president. There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory," Guo said at a daily news briefing.

China firmly opposes any form of official exchange between Taiwan authorities and countries that have diplomatic relations with China, Guo said.

He emphasized that what Japan should do most now is to retract the erroneous remarks made by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan.
