Two dead, seven hurt in construction site accident

SHENZHEN: Nine casualties resulted when a crane toppled over at a construction site in south China's Guangdong Province, local authorities confirmed Sunday.

The crane collapsed on a bridge and its jib broke off falling from the bridge along with another construction vehicle, killing one person and injuring eight others at a Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link site in Guangming New District in Shenzhen City, Guangdong, at 12:40 am Saturday, said a police official.

All the eight injured were rushed to hospital. One of the injured died in hospital while the other seven were in stable condition.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, the official said.
