Hot buns, hot prices

Whopping prices for ordinary things

A Sina Weibo user Zhangzhou claims he paid 96 yuan ($15) for eight steamed stuffed buns and 58 yuan ($9.2) for a dish of pignut in Tianjin Goubuli Steamed Stuffed Bun, a famous Chinese restaurant with a history of over one hundred years. And a menu photo in his weibo shows the restaurant has more expensive buns. The high-price buns have caused hot discussion on the Internet.

In China, steamed stuffed bun, also steamed pork dumpling, is a very common food and always sold for less than several yuan per bamboo steamer. The head office manager Mr Yang explains the prices of steamed stuffed buns are varied according to materials and they also provide ordinary buns with a lower price.
