China Mobile's Mobile Market, the world's first application store established by a telecom operator, owned 126,000 applications as of July, according to statistics from China Mobile Ltd.
Launched in August 2009, Mobile Market has become the world's biggest Chinese application store, with more than 10 million daily downloads. The total number of downloads have reached nearly 900 million after three years' of development.
The store had attracted about 3.7 million registered software developers by July.
China Mobile said it had built up partnerships with various industry players, as it strives to promote its mobile Internet business. Its partners include Motorola, Nokia, KDDI of Japan, SKT of South Korea and Glu Mobile of the United States. However, China Mobile did not provide the exact number of partners.
China Mobile is encouraging young people in China to develop applications. In 2010, the company encouraged 50 million students at 3,000 universities across the country to develop software for the mobile market. It said the program has moved into the second phase and more than 6 million young developers have benefited from the project.
