Resolute courage and persistent efforts are needed to fight corruption and guard the outstanding and pure nature of the Communist Party of China, said Wang Yang, Party secretary of Guangdong province.

He made the remarks at a provincial conference on June 28 to mark the 91st anniversary of the CPC, reported the China News Service.

Guangdong is in a crucial period for comprehensively deepening reforms and the opening-up process and accelerate transformation. However, some Party members have a weak sense of risks and corruption exists, Wang said.

Some Party members and officials violate Party laws and rules, while others shield criminal gangs, as seen in the ongoing campaign against economic crimes in the province, he said.

A highly export-oriented economy, Guangdong has been affected by the international financial crisis and faces an urgent task of economic transformation, Wang added.

Since the reform and opening-up process, and with the rapidly growing economy, rising social conflicts and mounting social administration tasks, the building of a "happy Guangdong" has become a major topic, he said.

Wang said that concrete measures are needed to enhance the social building, with a focus on improving people's livelihoods.

He urged continuous efforts to perfect the anti-graft system in Guangdong, with the supervision to be strengthened from inside the Party, outside the Party, in specialized organizations and in the public opinion.
